Seller's Description:
Very rare original 1967 screenprint with original mailing envelope. In the catalogue raisonne, Corlett, suggests that this same 'Modern Art' image was used on an announcement for the exhibition 'Roy Lichtenstein: Painting and Sculpture' at the Leo Castelli Gallery, October 28-November 18, 1967. During this time, Lichtenstein was fascinated with the streamlined, highly stylized aesthetic of Art Deco, an art form developed to glorify the industrial advancement of the 1930's. The theme of mechanization which was the antithesis of the Abstraction Expressionist movement, was central to the artist's work during this period.
